# Bergamot Air Freshener Spray

This bergamot air freshener spray recipe is quick and easy to make using just a few fairly common essential oils. I love this one for the bathroom, laundry room, or near the entry after the house has been closed up for a while. It has a sharper citrus-herbal smell than my softer room sprays, so it feels more practical than pretty.

It is not a disinfectant, surface cleaner, or true odor remover. Think of it as a quick 4 oz air freshener for giving a room a brighter citrus-herbal scent after cleaning, airing out, or taking out the trash.

## Benefits

- Bright citrus-herbal home fragrance
- Great for bathrooms and entryways
- Less sweet than many natural sprays
- Small 4 oz batch.
- Does not use any synthetic scents.

## Ingredients

- 2 tablespoons vodka
- 2 tablespoons witch hazel
- 4 tablespoons distilled water
- 12 drops bergamot essential oil
- 8 drops grapefruit essential oil
- 4 drops rosemary essential oil

**Bergamot essential oil:**
Bergamot gives the spray a smooth citrus base that feels more refined than lemon alone.

**Grapefruit essential oil:**
Grapefruit adds sparkle and a peel-like lift. It pairs beautifully with the bergamot essential oil.

**Rosemary essential oil:**
Rosemary brings a clean herbal note that suits bathrooms and entryways.

**Vodka and witch hazel:**
These help disperse the oils and improve the feel of the spray, though shaking is still needed.

## Recommended Supplies

This air freshener spray uses citrus and herbal essential oils for a crisp home fragrance that feels cleaner than a sweet floral mist. We have many room spray recipes on flowers and herbs, use this one for a lighter fragrance in the home.

- 4 oz glass spray bottle
- Small funnel
- Measuring spoon
- Label

### Equipment

- 4 oz spray bottle
- Small funnel
- Measuring spoon
- Label

### Method

1. Add vodka and witch hazel to the bottle.
2. Add bergamot, grapefruit, and rosemary essential oils.
3. Fill with distilled water, leaving space for shaking.
4. Cap and shake well.
5. Label with the date.

## How to Use

Shake well and spray into the air in bathrooms, entryways, laundry rooms, or other spaces that need a quick fresh scent. Avoid spraying directly onto surfaces, pets, or fabrics as this could cause damage.

## Storage

Store in a cool, dark place and use within 2–3 months. Shake before each use because essential oils can separate in water-based sprays.

## Safety Considerations

- For household air use only; do not ingest.
- Avoid spraying near eyes, faces, pets, birds, aquariums, open flames, or delicate surfaces.
- Use lightly in small rooms and ventilate if anyone is sensitive to fragrance.
- Rosemary essential oil may not be suitable around some children, pets, or people with certain medical concerns. Omit the rosemary essential oil in this case.
- Keep out of reach of children.

## Additional Notes

This is an air freshener, not a surface cleaner. If you need to clean counters or bathroom surfaces, use a properly formulated cleaning recipe instead.

This recipe is for scenting the air only. It does not replace cleaning, disinfecting, or proper ventilation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from bergamot room spray?

This air freshener is brighter and more herbal, designed for quick freshening in bathrooms and utility areas rather than soft everyday room fragrance.

Can I use this as a toilet spray?

It can be sprayed into the room but is not designed for application to skin.

Why add rosemary to an air freshener?

Rosemary gives the spray a clean herbal edge, which helps the citrus smell fresher and less sweet.
